I'm Joseph.

I’m a multi-disciplinary designer and researcher from San Antonio, Texas, currently pursuing a Master's degree in design at Carnegie Mellon University. I have worked on projects involving AI product design, game design, crowdfund advertising, and more.

I am currently seeking user experience design and research roles starting May 2025.

A designer who understands Figma and the front page of The Wall Street Journal

Coming from a background in international relations and journalism, I’ve worked on multidisciplinary teams to design user interfaces, fine-tune interactions, and concisely communicate about complex topics.

My work has often highlighted how designed systems influence decision-making. I've published news and analysis on economic trends, geopolitical developments, and tech business news.

Today, my design approach focuses on understanding and retelling users' stories to facilitate experiential flow and meaningful connections. I also consider when control should be in the hands of the user and how we might build healthier boundaries with the modern attention economy.

A researcher who thinks critically and acts empathetically

My work often involves rapidly building an understanding of new issues and current events — including knowing what I don’t know. I strive to ask critical but empathetic questions in design research and usability testing.

A lifelong learner who uses AI as a thought partner

I’m always trying to learn new things and exercise my creativity. This often involves using AI to rapidly learn and apply new skills, tools, and methodologies. Recently, I’ve used Cursor for AI-powered Javascript coding, Claude for learning Protopie, and ChatGPT for bioplastic recipes.

Three books I'd recommend: Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown, Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari, and Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan. ‍
